Apistogramma sp. 'Farroupilha'
Also known as: Farroupilha Apisto, Southern Brazil Apisto
Origin: South America
Apistogramma sp. Farroupilha originates from the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, near the Farroupilha region. Unlike most Apistogramma it tolerates significantly cooler water temperatures, reflecting its more southerly distribution. Its earthy brown-gold coloration is subtler than many congeners but deepens beautifully under good conditions.
Water: 20-26°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft to moderately soft (GH 2-8); cooler temps tolerated. Tank: 60L minimum, sand substrate, caves, robust planting. Feeding: omnivore — varied live/frozen and quality dry foods. Behaviour: territorial during breeding; pair or harem (1M:2-3F). Compatibility: peaceful community; good with similarly cool-tolerant small fish.
