Betta splendens
Also known as: Feathertail Betta, Extreme Rosetail, Feather Fin Betta
Origin: Southeast Asia
Beyond the rosetail, the feathertail represents the furthest extent of fin ray branching in Betta splendens, producing a delicate, feather-like caudal fin. This extreme finnage requires exceptional water quality and very gentle flow. These fish are best regarded as display specimens and require knowledgeable, attentive care.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.0, very soft and clean — weekly water changes are essential. Tank: minimum 20L, near-zero flow; silk or soft plants only to protect delicate finnage. Feeding: small betta pellets, frozen daphnia, bloodworm — tiny amounts twice daily. Behaviour: highly prone to fin biting due to excess fin weight; enriched environment reduces stress. Compatibility: species-only setup strongly recommended; zero fin-nippers permitted.
