Betta splendens
Also known as: Female Halfmoon Betta, HM Female, Female Betta
Origin: Southeast Asia
Female halfmoon bettas are produced by pairing halfmoon breeding lines and selecting females that express a near-180-degree tail spread. Their broader fins carry more colouration than typical females, making them eye-catching display fish. They are well-suited for sorority tanks with other females.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — clean conditions protect the broader fins from damage. Tank: minimum 20L; for sororities, 80L+ heavily planted to minimise aggression. Feeding: carnivore — betta pellets, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp; two feedings daily. Behaviour: females may show fin-nipping toward each other in sororities — add hiding spots. Compatibility: suitable for peaceful community tanks and betta sorority setups.
