Trichogaster lalius
Also known as: Female Dwarf Gourami
Origin: India, Bangladesh
Female Trichogaster lalius lack the vivid colouration of males but display a pleasant silver-grey body with faint vertical barring. They are indispensable for anyone wishing to breed Dwarf Gouramis and help diffuse male aggression when kept in pairs or trios. They are hardy, undemanding labyrinth fish for community aquaria.
Water: 25–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 60L minimum, floating plants for bubble nest, tall stem plants for cover. Feeding: Omnivore — flake, micro-pellets, frozen daphnia and bloodworm. Behaviour: Peaceful; males may harass females — provide dense planting as refuge. Compatibility: Excellent community fish; avoid fin-nippers.
