Nemateleotris magnifica
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Nemateleotris magnifica — the firefish or fire dartfish — has a gorgeous gradient colouration from pale white at the head to deep red at the tail, with long trailing dorsal filaments. It is a peaceful, hover-swimming species that darts into holes when startled. It is reef-safe and will pair with a shrimp partner for burrowing. Keep as a single specimen or mated pair as they can be aggressive toward conspecifics in small tanks. Prone to jumping — provide a tight cover.
Light: any. Flow: gentle-moderate. TIGHT LID required (jumper). Feed: small meaty foods, mysis, brine. Reef-safe. Keep single or pair. Pairs with pistol shrimp in nature.
