Flagtail Porthole Catfish (Dianema urostriata)

Dianema urostriata, the Flagtail Porthole Catfish, is a beautiful callichthyid from the Rio Negro drainage in Brazil, instantly recognizable by its boldly striped caudal fin of alternating black and white bands unique in the genus. An active, peaceful species that appreciates the company of its own kind and makes a superb addition to soft-water community aquariums.

Keep in groups of 4+. Provide fine sand substrate and dense planting. Feed sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, meaty micro-foods. Soft, slightly acidic water preferred — from the mineral-poor Rio Negro drainage. Active and visible compared to many catfish. A beautiful and underappreciated community catfish.
