Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Flamingo Guppy, Pink Guppy
Origin: Captive bred (originally Trinidad)
The Flamingo Guppy is a selectively developed strain prized for its soft, warm pink colouration that ranges from pale blush to deep salmon. The broad fan tail carries the same flamingo-pink tones with subtle iridescent highlights in males at peak colour.
This strain is particularly popular in aquascaped display tanks where its gentle colour palette complements lush green plantings. It requires the same care as other fancy guppies but benefits from a varied diet rich in carotenoids to maintain vibrant pink tones.
Flamingo Guppies are peaceful community fish and do well alongside similarly sized, non-aggressive tankmates.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard water preferred. Tank: 60 L minimum; well-planted with gentle filtration; floating plants reduce stress. Feeding: Colour-enhancing flake with astaxanthin or spirulina; supplement with live Artemia for best pink colouration. Breeding: Prolific; maintain multiple females per male; separate fry at birth. Compatibility: Peaceful; ideal with nano tetras, small rasboras, and dwarf corydoras.
