Paracheilinus filamentosus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Paracheilinus filamentosus — the filament flasher wrasse — is one of the most visually spectacular small reef fish. Terminal males undergo a brief but extraordinary colour display ('flashing') with erect fins, flushed blue and red colours, and elongated dorsal and caudal filaments when displaying to females or rivals. Outside of displaying they are peaceful, active mid-level swimmers. A harem of one male to 3–5 females creates regular display behaviour.
Light: any. Flow: gentle-moderate. TIGHT LID required. Keep 1 male with 3–5 females for natural display. Feed: mysis, brine, live copepods. Reef-safe and peaceful.
