Oryzias cf. latipes
Also known as: Fluorescent Medaka, Glow Medaka
Origin: Captive-bred (Japan)
Oryzias cf. latipes 'Fluorescent' is a commercially developed ornamental strain of medaka selectively bred for intensely bright, lustrous body colours that appear to glow or shimmer under aquarium lighting. Like other medaka strains, it retains the species' outstanding hardiness and adaptability, breeding readily and tolerating a wide temperature range. It is best displayed in planted tanks with dark substrates that maximise the contrast of its vivid colouration.
Water: 16–28 °C, pH 6.5–8.0, adaptable to most water conditions. Tank: 20 L minimum; dark substrate and gentle lighting enhance visual impact. Feeding: Omnivore — medaka flake, micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, Daphnia. Behaviour: Peaceful surface schooler; keep 6+ for natural group behaviour. Compatibility: Ideal with other medaka strains, nano shrimp, and small community fish.
