Also known as: Foersch's Betta
Origin: Borneo (Kalimantan, Indonesia)
Betta foerschi is a paternal mouthbrooder from the blackwater peat swamps of Central Kalimantan, Borneo. Males display subtle blue-green iridescence over a brownish base with dark facial banding. Like other mouthbrooding bettas it thrives in a dedicated species tank with soft, acidic blackwater conditions.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 4.0–6.0, very soft blackwater; use RO or rainwater with tannin additives. Tank: 30L minimum, leaf litter, floating plants, very gentle filtration. Feeding: Live/frozen micro-invertebrates; difficult to wean onto dry foods. Behaviour: Peaceful but males may quarrel; pairs bond loosely. Compatibility: Species tank recommended.
