Formosania lacustre
Also known as: Formosania Hillstream Loach, Taiwan Rock-sucker
Origin: Taiwan
Formosania lacustre is a stout Taiwanese hillstream loach with a wide adhesive disc and a compact, heavily built body for withstanding powerful mountain torrents. Its care requirements overlap significantly with Crossostoma lacustre, which it shares habitat with in Taiwan's cooler montane river systems. In an appropriate setup it is an active and long-lived display fish for the dedicated hillstream hobbyist.
Water: 16-22°C, pH 7.0-8.0, hard, very cool and highly oxygenated. Tank: Minimum 80 L, large smooth boulders, chiller essential, high flow rate. Feeding: Biofilm, algae wafers, spirulina tablets, blanched courgette. Behaviour: Diurnal; forages actively on rock and glass surfaces. Compatibility: Peaceful; keep with other cool-water hillstream specialists.
