Dichotomyctere fluviatilis
Also known as: Freshwater Green Spotted Puffer, Freshwater GSP
Origin: Sri Lanka, India, Southeast Asia
Dichotomyctere fluviatilis juveniles inhabit fully fresh or very slightly brackish rivers in Sri Lanka, India, and Southeast Asia. As they mature, their osmotic requirements shift toward brackish and eventually marine salinity. Many are sold in the hobby as 'freshwater' puffers but long-term health requires a gradual transition to brackish water as they grow.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5 (juveniles); adults require brackish transition to SG 1.005–1.012. Tank: Minimum 80 L; robust plants, open swimming space, and caves for retreat. Feeding: Snails, bloodworm, brine shrimp, and frozen crustaceans. Behaviour: Aggressive fin-nipper; highly territorial — species-only at all life stages. Compatibility: Species-only; do not mix with other puffers or vulnerable fish.
