About

Coenobita perlatus is a land-adapted hermit crab from Indo-Pacific coastal regions that requires high humidity and access to both fresh and salt water pools in a paludarium. It carries a borrowed shell for protection and will actively search for larger shells as it grows. It is omnivorous and interactive, making it an engaging paludarium inhabitant.

Care Guide

Water: 24–30°C ambient temperature, pH 7.5–8.5; provide both freshwater and marine saltwater bowls. Tank: Minimum 40L paludarium with deep substrate for burrowing, climbing décor, humidity above 70%, and a secure lid. Feeding: Dried fish, fruit, coconut, blanched greens, and calcium-rich shell supplements. Behaviour: Nocturnal and exploratory; will climb, dig, and swap shells regularly. Compatibility: Species-only; not compatible with fish or aquatic invertebrates.
