Porcellanidae sp.
Also known as: Freshwater Porcelain Crab
Origin: Southeast Asia
Freshwater Porcelain Crabs are small, peaceful Porcellanidae with a distinctively smooth, porcelain-white carapace and notably flattened body form. They are primarily filter feeders, extending fan-like maxillipeds into the current to capture suspended food particles and micro-organisms. They are shy and prefer well-oxygenated water with moderate flow and ample hiding places among rocks and wood. A specialist and unusual species for dedicated invertebrate setups.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 6–15, KH 3–8; moderate flow for filter feeding. Tank: minimum 40 L, rocks with crevices, smooth driftwood; good oxygenation. Feeding: suspended micro-particles, liquid invertebrate food, powdered spirulina. Behaviour: shy and cryptic; filter feeds in current; peaceful. Compatibility: safe with shrimp and small peaceful fish; avoid boisterous or large species.
