Echidna rhodochilus
Also known as: Freshwater Snowflake Eel, White Ribbon Eel, Brackish Snowflake Moray
Origin: Southeast Asia
Echidna rhodochilus is encountered in the lower reaches of rivers and estuaries of Southeast Asia, typically in brackish to nearly marine conditions. Its striking pale ground colour with dark speckles creates an appearance reminiscent of the popular marine Snowflake Moray. It is a strong, agile escape artist and must never be housed in a tank with any gaps in the lid or plumbing.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, specific gravity 1.005-1.015; brackish conditions essential for long-term health. Tank: Minimum 250L, large rock caves for hiding, 100% sealed and weighted lid with no gaps. Feeding: Carnivore; whole prawn, mussel, squid; feed after dark with tongs. Behaviour: Secretive and nocturnal; aggressive predator toward all accessible fish. Compatibility: Solo or with very large brackish-tolerant species; large scats, archerfish.
