About

Potamon species are fully aquatic or semi-aquatic freshwater crabs found in rivers and streams across Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. They are robustly built, spending most of their time beneath stones or in burrows along river banks. They require cool, clean, well-oxygenated water and do best in a biotope setup dedicated to their specific needs.

Care Guide

Water: 15–24°C, pH 7.0–8.0; well-oxygenated, clean water with moderate hardness. Tank: Minimum 80L with large flat stones for shelter, fine gravel substrate, and strong filtration. Feeding: Sinking pellets, dried fish, blanched vegetables, detritus, and invertebrate prey. Behaviour: Aggressive and territorial; primarily nocturnal; will burrow and hide under rocks. Compatibility: Species-only tank strongly recommended; will attack fish and smaller invertebrates.
