Cyphotilapia frontosa
Also known as: Zambia 7-Bar Frontosa, Zaire Blue Frontosa
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Sourced from the Zambian coastline of Lake Tanganyika, this morph of Cyphotilapia frontosa features seven distinct black bars — unusual and highly prized by collectors. Zambian specimens often display especially rich blue-purple iridescence on the head. Management is identical to other Frontosa morphs; they are slow growers requiring a decade to reach full splendour.
Water: 24-26°C, pH 7.8-9.0, GH 10-18, KH 8-16; pristine water quality essential. Tank: 600L+ for a breeding colony; large smooth rocks, open sand floor. Feeding: Quality cichlid carnivore pellet, frozen shrimp, and lance fish; feed every 2 days. Behaviour: Dominant male leads colony; females mouthbrood fry for 4-5 weeks. Compatibility: Other large Tanganyika cichlids: Cyathopharynx, Ophthalmotilapia, Xenotilapia.
