Labeotropheus fuelleborni
Also known as: Fuelleborni Cichlid, Fuelleborni Mbuna
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Labeotropheus fuelleborni is the larger of the two Labeotropheus species and is well known for the prevalence of attractive orange-blotch colour morphs in females. Males are typically blue-black with a downturned snout. Like L. trewavasae, it is an algae grazer adapted to steep rocky surfaces and is a cornerstone species in many Malawi mbuna collections.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline water. Tank: 200L minimum with rock surfaces for algae grazing behaviour. Feeding: Spirulina and algae-based foods as staple; no animal protein-heavy foods. Behaviour: Moderately aggressive; typical robust mbuna temperament. Compatibility: Compatible with most mbuna; a reliable standard community fish.
