Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Galaxy Guppy, Starfield Guppy
Origin: Captive bred (Asian lineage)
The Galaxy Guppy is a premium captive strain that combines a deep, near-black body base with dense iridescent spotting in blue, green, gold, and red — creating a breathtaking star-field effect that shifts colour under different lighting angles. The broad fan tail carries complementary patterning that extends the galaxy motif.
This is one of the more demanding fancy guppy strains to maintain in peak condition. Hard, warm, stable water and a protein-rich, colour-enhancing diet are essential to prevent colour fading. Males reach full colour expression between four and six months of age.
Best kept in a species or show tank where their stunning appearance can be fully appreciated, though they are peaceful and community-safe.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, hard water (GH 12–20) vital for colour intensity. Tank: 60 L minimum; bright lighting showcases the galaxy pattern; dense but open planting. Feeding: Premium colour-enhancing flake and pellets; regular live/frozen Artemia and Daphnia. Breeding: Moderately demanding; select breeding pairs from best-patterned individuals only. Compatibility: Peaceful; avoid any species that may nip at the large fan tail.
