Leporacanthicus galaxias
Origin: Brazil / Venezuela
Leporacanthicus galaxias — the L029 or galaxy pleco — has a jet-black body dotted with vivid cream to yellow spots, creating a striking galaxy-like appearance. Like all Leporacanthicus it is primarily carnivorous and should not be expected to control algae significantly. It is calmer than some plecos but males compete fiercely for caves. Requires warm, well-oxygenated water with moderate to high flow. An impressive and long-lived addition to South American biotope tanks.
pH 6.0–7.5. Warm (26–30°C). Moderate-high flow. 150+ L. Caves essential. Feed: meaty foods — bloodworm, whole shrimp, tablet foods. Not an algae cleaner.
