Leporacanthicus galaxias, the Galaxy Pleco (L240), is one of the most visually stunning L-number plecos available. Its jet-black body is densely covered in tiny white to cream spots, creating the impression of a starfield or galaxy. A medium-sized omnivorous pleco from the Rio Tocantins and Araguaia in Brazil. Carnivore-leaning diet; requires meaty sinking foods supplemented with algae matter. Cave-spawner in the tradition of other Hypancistrus-type plecos.
Temperature 26–30 °C, strong flow, good oxygenation. Sandy/gravel substrate with caves and crevices. Feed sinking meaty pellets, frozen shrimp, mussels. Supplement with algae wafers. Low nitrates essential. 150+ L.
