Geophagus altifrons
Origin: Amazon basin and Tocantins River system, Brazil
Geophagus altifrons is a large, impressive eartheater from the Amazon and Tocantins river systems, recognized by its high, steeply-arched forehead and beautiful blue-green spangle pattern over a light body with a dark lateral blotch. This delayed mouthbrooder forms loose groups and continuously sifts fine sand substrate for food. A commanding presence in large South American biotopes.
Provide a large aquarium (400L+) with a deep fine sand substrate for sifting. Maintain soft to neutral water. Feed quality eartheater pellets and meaty supplements; also eats algae and plant matter naturally. Keep in groups of 5+ for the best social behaviour and breeding displays. Very peaceful for a large cichlid.
