Geophagus altifrons
Origin: Amazon, Brazil
Geophagus altifrons 'Tefé' is a large eartheater cichlid known for its impressive size and vivid blue-green and yellow colouration. In nature it continuously picks up mouthfuls of substrate to sift for food — this behaviour requires fine sand in the aquarium. It is a delayed mouthbrooder; both parents incubate the eggs and fry in the mouth. A peaceful large cichlid when housed with similarly-sized species in large planted or natural biotope tanks.
pH 5.5–7.5. Deep fine sand substrate. 400+ L. Groups of 5–8. Feed: meaty foods, sinking pellets, earthworms. Monitor with smaller fish.
