Geophagus winemilleri
Origin: Orinoco basin and Llanos river systems, Venezuela
Geophagus winemilleri is a large, elegant eartheater from Venezuela's Orinoco and Llanos river systems, featuring a cream-to-silver body with brilliant turquoise and green iridescent spangles, warm orange gill cover patches, and a characteristic black lateral spot. This delayed mouthbrooder thrives in groups and engages in fascinating cooperative brooding behaviour. A spectacular and underrated species for large South American community displays.
Provide a large aquarium (350L+) with fine sand substrate and open swimming space. Maintain soft, slightly acidic to neutral water. Feed quality pellets, frozen meaty foods, plant matter. Keep in groups of 5+. One of the more spectacularly coloured eartheaters — well worth the investment in a suitably sized tank.
