Apistogramma gephyra
Also known as: Gephyra Apisto, Gephyra Apistogramma
Origin: South America
Apistogramma gephyra is a graceful species found in the central Amazon region, characterised by its slender body form and the filamentous extensions on the caudal fin of mature males. Its patterning is more subtle than some Apistogramma but it compensates with elegant finnage and interesting breeding behaviour. It prefers soft, slightly acidic to neutral water.
Water: 25-30°C, pH 5.0-6.8, soft (GH 2-6). Tank: 60L minimum, sand substrate, caves, driftwood, fine-leaved plants. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen Artemia, Daphnia; cichlid micro-pellets. Behaviour: territorial during breeding; harem (1M:2-3F) or pairs work well. Compatibility: peaceful community with small Amazonian tetras and Corydoras.
