Apistogramma gephyra
Origin: Brazil (lower Rio Negro and Solimões confluence)
Apistogramma gephyra is a dwarf cichlid endemic to the lower Rio Negro and Solimões confluence in Brazil, occupying a very restricted natural range. Males display a prominent lateral spot, vivid blue pelvic fin tips, and a rounded caudal with red margining. Like most Rio Negro species, it demands very soft, acidic, tannin-stained water for optimal health and breeding.
Maintain in extremely soft, highly acidic blackwater (pH 4.0–6.0) using RO water with peat or Indian almond leaves. Keep 1 male with 2–3 females in a heavily planted tank with caves and leaf litter. Feed live/frozen bloodworms, artemia, daphnia. Sensitive to water quality — for dedicated Apistogramma blackwater specialists.
