Cyprinus rubrofuscus × Cyprinus carpio
Also known as: Ghost Koi, Ghost Carp, Metallic Mirror Carp
Origin: UK
Ghost Koi were developed in the UK by crossing metallic Ogon koi with wild mirror carp, resulting in a fish with a semi-metallic, iridescent sheen and remarkable cold-hardiness. They grow faster and larger than standard koi and are more disease-resistant, making them an ideal first koi for beginners establishing a new pond.
Water: 4–25°C, pH 6.5–7.8, extremely tolerant of a wide range of conditions. Pond: minimum 1,000 L; Ghost Koi grow quickly and need room to reach full potential. Feeding: standard koi and pond pellets; will also graze on algae and aquatic insects. Behaviour: bold, fast-growing, and inquisitive; often the dominant fish in a mixed koi pond. Compatibility: all koi varieties; ideal beginner koi for new pond setups.
