Achatina fulica is one of the largest terrestrial snail species in the world, capable of growing shells up to 20 cm in length. In a paludarium context it occupies the humid land zone, grazing on decaying plant material, fruit, and soft vegetation. Its enormous size and active, curious behaviour make it a captivating display animal. Keepers should check local regulations before purchase as this species is subject to import restrictions in many countries.
Water: terrestrial; substrate moisture 70–80%; mist daily; shallow water dish for drinking. Tank: minimum 60 L paludarium, deep moist soil substrate, hiding spots, ventilated lid. Feeding: fruit, vegetables, leafy greens, calcium supplements (cuttlebone) for shell health. Behaviour: nocturnal grazer; terrestrial; will consume soft live plants. Compatibility: keep alone or with other giant snails; not suitable with fish.
