About

Pomacea canaliculata can exceed 15cm and is one of the largest freshwater snails in the world. It makes a powerful statement in very large aquariums or pond displays, though hobbyists must be aware it will consume aquatic plants. It is best kept in tanks with hardy, inedible décor or specifically designed to feature its imposing presence.

Care Guide

Water: 18–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0; calcium-rich hard water essential for the massive shell. Tank: Minimum 200L with a very secure lid; suited to large, plant-free or robust-plant setups. Feeding: Algae wafers, blanched vegetables, aquatic plants; requires large quantities of food daily. Behaviour: Highly active and voracious; will consume soft aquatic plants and most decaying matter. Compatibility: Keep with large, robust fish only; not suitable for planted or shrimp tanks.
