About

Marisa cornuarietis, the Giant Colombian or Giant Ramshorn, is a large and visually impressive freshwater snail from Central and South America bearing a wide, flat spiral shell marked with distinctive dark stripes on a golden or olive background. It is one of the most ornamental snails available for freshwater aquariums but is a voracious grazer of aquatic vegetation and is not suitable for planted tanks. Best housed in fish-only or paludarium setups.

Care Guide

Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–18, KH 4–10; calcium-rich water important. Tank: minimum 60 L, open substrate areas, driftwood; not suitable for planted aquariums. Feeding: algae, aquatic plants, blanched greens, sinking wafers, calcium supplement. Behaviour: active diurnal grazer; consumes soft and hard-leaved aquatic plants.
