Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Ginga Rubra Guppy, Full Red Ginga Guppy
Origin: Captive bred (Japanese Ginga lineage)
The Ginga Rubra is a prestigious Japanese show guppy strain bred to the exacting Ginga standard, which demands full-body saturation of a single colour — in this case a deep, uniform ruby red from the nose to the tip of the caudal fin. The Ginga standard was developed in Japan to produce show fish with the maximum possible colour impact and symmetry.
Maintaining Ginga Rubra quality requires dedicated strain breeding, excellent water quality, and a diet heavily supplemented with carotenoids. Any lapse in care rapidly leads to colour fade that is difficult to reverse in show-quality lines.
This is a fish for the serious enthusiast — rewarding to keep and breed, but demanding in terms of care standards and genetic management.
Water: 24–28 °C, pH 7.2–8.0, GH 12–20; pristine water quality is mandatory for show colouration. Tank: 60 L minimum; gentle filtration; excellent consistent lighting for colour evaluation. Feeding: Astaxanthin-rich colour foods, live Artemia, spirulina; 3 small meals daily. Breeding: Livebearer; brood 15–40; breed only from the deepest-red individuals in the line. Compatibility: Show-strain tank only; stress from aggressive tank mates degrades colour rapidly.
