Kryptopterus vitreolus
Origin: Thailand, Myanmar
Kryptopterus vitreolus, the Glass Catfish, is one of the most fascinating fish in the freshwater hobby — its body is almost completely transparent, displaying all internal organs including the spine and beating heart. Unlike most catfish it is a mid-water, schooling species that hovers in gentle current. Native to slow-moving rivers in Thailand, it requires groups of 5+ to feel secure and display natural behaviour. Peaceful with all tank mates; best with soft-water community fish in planted tanks.
Groups of 5+. Gentle flow, soft slightly acidic water. Temperature 22–26 °C. Avoid strong current. Floating plants and tall stem plants for shade. Feed micro-pellets, frozen daphnia, and baby brine shrimp. Sensitive to poor water quality.
