About

Eigenmannia virescens is a widespread Gymnotiform knife fish native to rivers and streams throughout South America. Its near-transparent body and pale green iridescence, combined with remarkable locomotive agility, make it an endlessly fascinating observation fish. It is less aggressive than many knife fish and can be kept in small groups given sufficient space.

Care Guide

Water: 24-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: Minimum 200L, planted or with driftwood, subdued lighting, hiding zones. Feeding: Carnivore; live and frozen bloodworm, Tubifex worm, brine shrimp, small invertebrates. Behaviour: Less aggressive than other knife fish; can be kept in groups with caution. Compatibility: Large tetras, peaceful cichlids, medium catfish; avoid fin-nippers.
