Trigonostigma hengeli
Also known as: Glowlight Rasbora, Hengel's Rasbora
Origin: Sumatra, Indonesia, Thai-Malay Peninsula
Trigonostigma hengeli is a micro rasbora from the blackwater streams and peat swamps of Sumatra and the Thai-Malay Peninsula, often found among dense aquatic vegetation in very soft, acidic water. Its near-transparent body is bisected by a vivid orange neon stripe with a small, neat dark patch beneath the dorsal fin. When a school is kept in a dimly lit, botanically styled aquarium, the collective glow of their lateral stripes creates a mesmerising effect.
Water: 23–28 °C, pH 5.5–7.0, very soft water preferred (GH 1–8). Tank: 40 L minimum; dense planting, blackwater botanicals, dark substrate. Feeding: Omnivore — micro pellets, Cyclops, baby brine shrimp, finely crushed flake. Behaviour: Peaceful micro schooler; keep 10+ for confidence and best colouration display. Compatibility: Ideal with Boraras species, CPD, nano shrimp, and small bottom dwellers.
