Hemigrammus erythrozonus
Also known as: Glowlight Tetra, Glow Light Tetra
Origin: Guyana (Essequibo River)
Hemigrammus erythrozonus from Guyana's Essequibo River is beloved for its intense iridescent orange-red mid-lateral stripe that truly appears to glow under aquarium lighting. Its translucent silvery body and red-tipped dorsal fin complete a striking appearance. It is peaceful, hardy, and ideal for community planted tanks where its colour is shown to best effect against green vegetation.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 5.8–7.5, preferably soft and slightly acidic. Tank: 60 L minimum; best in planted tanks with dark substrate to intensify the stripe colour. Feeding: Micro-pellets, quality flake, frozen brine shrimp nauplii and daphnia. Behaviour: Peaceful mid-water schooling fish; keep in groups of 8 or more. Compatibility: Excellent with nano rasboras, other small tetras, corydoras, and small livebearers.
