Pomacea bridgesii var. Gold
Origin: South America (captive-bred)
The Gold Apple Snail (Pomacea bridgesii var. Gold) is a captive-bred color variant of the popular Spike-topped Apple Snail from South America, selected for its striking vivid golden-yellow shell and matching golden-yellow foot and body that add a bold splash of color to any freshwater aquarium. Unlike Pomacea canaliculata (the invasive apple snail that can devastate planted tanks), P. bridgesii is generally considered safe with established live plants as it strongly prefers soft, decaying plant matter and algae over firm, healthy plant tissue. It is a peaceful and active scavenger that cleans up uneaten food, detritus, and algae from the substrate, glass, and hardscape. An attractive and functional addition to community aquariums.
Provide an aquarium with ample surface area for breathing — apple snails breathe air and will drown if unable to reach the surface. Ensure the tank is not overfilled so the snail can access air. Feed with algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, cucumber, spinach), fish food remnants, and sinking pellets. Maintain calcium-rich water (GH 8+) for healthy shell development — soft water causes shell pitting and erosion. Keep with peaceful fish; avoid pufferfish, large cichlids, and other shell-crushers.
