Trichogaster trichopterus
Also known as: Gold Gourami, Golden Gourami
Origin: Southeast Asia
The Gold Gourami is a selectively bred variant of the Three-spot Gourami, distinguished by its uniform golden-yellow body devoid of spots. It shares the same robust constitution and wide water-parameter tolerance as its parent form, making it an excellent choice for beginners. Males may show aggression towards conspecifics.
Water: temp 22–28°C, pH 6.0–8.0, adapts to a wide range of water hardness. Tank: minimum 80L, planted with hiding spots; lid essential as it is a jumper. Feeding: omnivore — flakes, pellets, live and frozen foods readily accepted. Behaviour: semi-aggressive; one male per tank recommended. Compatibility: good community fish; avoid housing with fin-nippers or very shy species.
