Pterophyllum scalare var.
Also known as: Gold Marble Angelfish, Gold Marble Angel
Origin: Captive bred (originally Amazon basin, South America)
The Gold Marble Angelfish combines two of the most popular angelfish colour genes: the gold mutation, which suppresses black striping and adds warm yellow tones, and the marble gene, which creates irregular blotchy patterning. The result is a fish with swirling patches of warm gold and black in a mosaic that varies between individual specimens.
This is a classic compound strain that has been well-established in the hobby for decades. It reliably produces attractive offspring when bred with other marble or gold fish, and crosses with koi lines can produce beautiful tri-colour gold marble koi specimens. The colouration is most vivid in adults maintained in optimal water conditions.
Gold marble angels are fully hardy beginner-friendly fish that are adaptable, long-lived, and breed readily in home aquaria. Their warm two-tone colouration makes them an attractive addition to any community cichlid setup.
Water: Temperature 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, GH 2–12, KH 1–6; stable parameters maintain the warmth of the gold tones. Tank: 150 L tall aquarium; dark backgrounds and warm-spectrum lighting bring out the gold marble colouration. Feeding: Cichlid pellets, colour-enhancing flake, frozen bloodworm and brine shrimp; feed 2–3 times per day. Breeding: Gold marble × gold marble produces reliably patterned offspring; cross to koi for tri-colour variants. Compatibility: Hardy community cichlid; keep with medium-bodied tetras, peaceful loaches, and corydoras.
