Baryancistrus xanthellus
Origin: Rio Xingu, Brazil
Baryancistrus xanthellus, the Gold Nugget Pleco (L018), is a visually spectacular loricariid from the Rio Xingu. Its jet-black body is dusted with bright yellow-gold spots and finished with a golden band on its dorsal and caudal fin edges. A predominantly algae and biofilm grazer that also takes sinking pellets and fresh vegetables. Needs strong flow, warm water, and hiding spaces. One of the most desirable L-numbers for experienced pleco keepers.
Temperature 26–30 °C, strong flow. Sandy/gravelly substrate with large flat stones and driftwood for grazing. Feed algae wafers, fresh zucchini and spinach, and sinking omnivore pellets. Keep nitrates below 20 ppm. Peaceful with most tankmates.
