Tanichthys albonubes
Also known as: Gold White Cloud, Golden White Cloud Mountain Minnow
Origin: Captive-bred
The Gold White Cloud is a selectively bred colour morph of Tanichthys albonubes where the normal grey-green pigmentation is replaced by a warm golden-yellow. The characteristic neon lateral stripe is reduced but the vivid crimson fin accents remain, creating a striking contrast.
Hardiness and behaviour are unchanged from the wild type. Gold White Clouds school actively in the middle and upper water column and are among the easiest fish to keep without a heater in a typical home environment.
They breed readily, with the golden trait being recessive. Pairs placed in a cool, well-planted tank with low light will often spawn without intervention.
Water: 14–22°C, pH 6.0–8.0, GH 2–15; tolerates a wide range of conditions without a heater. Tank: minimum 40 L, plants at the perimeter and open midwater swimming space. Feeding: omnivore — accepts flake, micro-pellets, cyclops, daphnia, and baby brine shrimp. Breeding: egg-scatterer; golden trait is recessive; spawns among java moss or fine-leaved plants. Compatibility: ideal community fish for unheated nano tanks; mix with other temperate nano species.
