Botia histrionica originates from the fast-flowing rivers of northeast India and sports striking vertical bands of gold and black that intensify as the fish matures. Like other botiids it is highly social, thriving in shoals and engaging in group activities including communal resting and synchronized swimming. Adults develop considerably and benefit from spacious aquaria with ample current.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 6.5-7.5, moderate to strong flow. Tank: Minimum 150 L, smooth gravel or sand, bogwood caves. Feeding: High-quality sinking pellets, live or frozen invertebrates, snails. Behaviour: Boisterous shoaler; playful chasing is normal social interaction. Compatibility: Good with medium to large peaceful fish; can intimidate small species.
