Thalassoma hebraicum
Origin: Indian Ocean
The Goldbar Wrasse (Thalassoma hebraicum) is a robust, energetic, and vividly colored wrasse from the Indian Ocean, sporting a complex and ever-shifting pattern of greens, pinks, and yellows that intensifies in dominant males, with a distinctive golden yellow mid-body bar giving the species its common name. Like all Thalassoma wrasses, it is an active, fast-moving predator of small crustaceans, worms, and molluscs — completely unsuitable for reef aquariums containing ornamental invertebrates, crabs, snails, or small shrimp. It thrives in large, vigorous fish-only or FOWLR systems where its bold coloration and tireless swimming behavior provide outstanding visual entertainment.
Provide at least 400 liters with strong water circulation and open swimming space. Feed twice daily with frozen mysis, chopped marine shrimp, krill, and meaty marine preparations. Do not combine with invertebrates or small nano fish — this wrasse will eat them. Robust and generally compatible with large, similarly active fish. A secure, tight-fitting lid is recommended as active wrasses can jump. Introduce as the last fish in a community to minimize territorial issues.
