Flowerhorn hybrid (Cichlasomatinae)
Also known as: Golden Base Flowerhorn, Golden Flowerhorn
Origin: Captive bred (hybrid)
The Golden Base Flowerhorn is selected for a distinctive base colouration that ranges from deep golden-yellow to warm amber, contrasting dramatically with the overlaying pearl scales and any red accents present. This warm colour palette differs markedly from the predominantly orange-red of Classic and SRD strains, giving the Golden Base a unique and regal appearance.
Quality Golden Base specimens exhibit a uniform golden ground colour without pale or dark patches, extensive pearl scaling distributed across the flanks and head, and a well-developed kok. The black lateral markings may be present as darker patches that appear jewel-like against the golden background.
The Golden Base is bred across multiple base strains including Zhen Zhu and Kamfa, meaning body shape and tail form can vary. Regardless of the specific bloodline, care requirements follow standard Flowerhorn husbandry principles.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 7.0–8.0; temperature stability important to maintain the warm golden pigmentation. Tank: 400L minimum; single specimen; bare bottom facilitates cleaning and reduces bacterial load. Feeding: High-protein pellets with carotenoid supplements; golden body colour can be enhanced with spirulina-containing foods. Breeding: Pairing two Golden Base individuals produces the highest ratio of golden-coloured offspring. Compatibility: Solitary; aggressive towards all tankmates.
