Caridina cantonensis var.
Also known as: Golden Bee Shrimp, Gold Bee Shrimp
Origin: Captive bred (Caridina cantonensis lineage)
The Golden Bee Shrimp is an uncommon and highly attractive Caridina cantonensis colour morph displaying warm golden-yellow banding alternating with crisp white, creating a honeycomb-like luminous appearance quite distinct from the typical red or black bee shrimp palette. Under good aquarium lighting, the golden colour appears to glow from within.
Like Crystal Red and Crystal Black Shrimp, the Golden Bee requires soft, acidic water with near-zero carbonate hardness. RO water remineralised with a Caridina-specific mineral salt is strongly recommended for long-term success. The species is best suited to experienced shrimp keepers familiar with the requirements of the Caridina genus.
Golden Bee Shrimp are rare in the hobby and command premium prices. Breeding colonies can be established in well-maintained Caridina setups where they will reproduce steadily under optimal conditions.
Water: 18–23°C, pH 5.8–6.5, GH 3–6, KH 0–2; RO water with Caridina mineral supplement required. Tank: minimum 20 L with active buffering substrate and sponge filter; dense mosses essential. Feeding: biofilm, snowflake food, high-quality shrimp powders, algae wafers sparingly. Breeding: moderate; females carry 15–25 eggs; stable parameters essential for successful moults. Compatibility: Caridina-only tank; no fish; may house with other bee shrimp of similar requirements.
