Nannacara anomala
Also known as: Golden Dwarf Cichlid, Golden Acara, Nannacara
Origin: South America (Guyana, Suriname)
Nannacara anomala originates from coastal rivers in Guyana and Suriname and is one of the most adaptable dwarf cichlids in the hobby. Males are highly attractive with golden-green iridescent scales and a bold black lateral stripe, while females develop a strong black-and-white breeding dress when guarding eggs. It tolerates moderate water hardness and a wide pH range, making it ideal for newcomers to the genre.
Water: 23-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, GH 5-15, KH 1-6; unusually tolerant of moderate hardness. Tank: 60L minimum; caves and plant cover for females; moderate planting. Feeding: Omnivore; accepts flake, quality pellets, and frozen foods without difficulty. Behaviour: Males polygamous; females become very aggressive when guarding eggs and fry. Compatibility: Good community fish with larger, non-nippy species; avoid very small tank mates.
