Valenciennea strigata
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Valenciennea strigata, the Golden Head Sleeper Goby, is a graceful sand-sifting goby with a vivid golden-yellow head and pearlescent silver body. It continuously sifts through the substrate, processing sand for micro-organisms and keeping the sandbed oxygenated and pest-free. A peaceful and completely reef-safe species. Best kept as a mated pair. Important note: it requires a mature sandbed with established infauna to sustain it; supplement with copepod cultures in new setups.
Mature sandbed essential (5+ cm deep). Supplement with copepod and amphipod cultures if infauna is sparse. Standard reef parameters. Mated pairs bond readily. Secure lid — occasional jumper. Feed target-supplement with frozen mysis if sand infauna is insufficient.
