Poecilia sphenops var.
Also known as: Golden Lyretail Molly, Gold Lyretail Molly
Origin: Captive bred
The Golden Lyretail Molly combines the lyretail fin mutation — which produces elegant symmetrical extensions on both lobes of the caudal fin — with a warm, consistent golden-yellow body colouration. The result is one of the most graceful-looking molly varieties, with flowing fins and an attractive colour that suits planted aquariums.
Lyretail mollies require a little more care than standard forms because the elongated tail extensions can be prone to bacterial or fungal infection if water quality deteriorates. Regular water changes and stable parameters keep the lyretail in pristine condition.
Feed a diet that includes regular vegetable matter — mollies are natural algae grazers and benefit greatly from spirulina-based foods to maintain full health and colour.
Water: 24–28 °C, pH 7.5–8.5, GH 12–25; excellent water quality mandatory for lyretail health. Tank: 100 L minimum; gentle flow; avoid fin-nipping species. Feeding: Quality flake with spirulina, algae wafers, occasional frozen Artemia; 2–3 meals daily. Breeding: Livebearer; lyretail dominant; 20–80 fry per brood. Compatibility: Peaceful; keep only with gentle, non-nippy tank mates.
