Auriglobus modestus
Also known as: Golden Puffer, Modestus Puffer
Origin: Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia)
Auriglobus modestus is closely related to the Avocado Puffer and shares its characteristic smooth, rounded body form, but displays a more uniform golden-yellow colouration. It inhabits slow-moving and standing waters across Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Despite its attractive appearance and seemingly calm demeanour, it is a confirmed fin-nipper and predator requiring species-only housing.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard; good filtration and regular water changes. Tank: Minimum 100 L; planted with open foraging areas and driftwood for territorial boundaries. Feeding: Snails, mussels, bloodworm, cockles, and small crustaceans. Behaviour: Deceptively calm but aggressive and unpredictable — fin-nips without warning. Compatibility: Species-only; individual housing is the safest approach.
