Scardinius erythrophthalmus var. auratus
Origin: Europe (captive bred)
The Golden Rudd is a selectively bred colour form of the European native Scardinius erythrophthalmus, displaying a gleaming golden body and vivid red fins that contrast beautifully with green pond plants and dark water. Small juveniles school actively near the water surface and bring lively, energetic movement to garden ponds from the first day. Fully cold-hardy and extremely easy to keep in naturalistic or formal pond settings throughout Belgium and the Netherlands.
Maintain in groups of at least 4 in a pond of 500 L or more. No heating required; fully tolerates European winters. Feed floating pond pellets supplemented with naturally occurring pond life. Grows readily and will develop full adult colouration within 1–2 seasons. Compatible with goldfish, koi, orfe, and gudgeon. Minimal maintenance requirements.
