Tinca tinca var. aurea
Origin: Europe (captive bred)
The Golden Tench is a captive-bred colour morph of the native tench (Tinca tinca), displaying a warm golden-yellow body with bright orange-red fins and small black spots that give it a unique, attractive appearance. It shares the same bottom-dwelling habits and omnivorous diet as its wild cousin and is valued both as a pond cleaner and a decorative specimen. The Golden Tench is very robust, tolerating a wide range of water conditions, and is fully cold-tolerant through Northern European winters.
House in a pond of at least 1,000 L with a mud or fine gravel substrate that allows natural rooting and foraging behavior. Fully cold-hardy; tolerates temperatures 4–25°C. Feed quality sinking pellets and allows to forage naturally. Generally solitary or kept in small groups. Compatible with koi and other pond fish. Low-maintenance and very adaptable.
